Introduction of GOLD

1.  Gold is a metallic element with the atomic number 79 and the symbol Au. The symbol Au comes from Latin word (aurum, "shining dawn").

2.  While the name gold comes from an Old English word meaning yellow.

3.  Gold is dense, soft, shiny, the most malleable and ductile pure metal.

4.  Pure gold has a bright yellow color and luster traditionally considered attractive, which it maintains without oxidizing in air or water.

5.  The metal occurs as nuggets or grains in rocks, in veins and in alluvial deposits.  

6.  A total of 165,000 tonnes of gold have been mined in human history, as of 2009. This is roughly equivalent to 5.3 billion troy ounces or, in terms of volume, about 8,500 cubic meters.

7.  65% of total mined gold is used in jewelery, while another 25% is used in industrial application in ceramics, electrical, and electronics applications.
